Iowa Severe Storms (DR-4557-IA)

A severe storm and floodings hit areas in Iowa on August 10, 2020. On August 17, 2020, a Major Disaster Declaration was issued for the state of Iowa to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the areas affected during this period. Assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster.

People in the following Counties are eligible to receive federal disaster assistance:

  • Benton
  • Boone
  • Cedar
  • Clinton
  • Jasper
  • Linn
  • Marshall
  • Polk
  • Poweshiek
  • Scott
  • Story
  • Tama

A toll-free legal aid hotline is now available for survivors in Iowa who cannot pay for an attorney. Survivors may call 1-877-469-2259, 9 am to 4:00 pm CST, Monday through Friday to request assistance.

Disaster Unemployment

Individuals from Linn County must file DUA applications by Thursday, Sept. 24, 2020. Individuals from Benton, Boone, Cedar, Jasper, Marshall, Polk, Poweshiek, Scott, Story, and Tama counties must file for DUA by Friday, Oct. 2, 2020.
