Dakota Plains Legal Services, Inc provides free civil legal assistance to eligible low-income residents in 34 counties throughout South Dakota and North Dakota as well as 9 tribal nations, including help for issues related to disaster relief and recovery. This may include help with insurance claims, disaster relief applications, temporary housing, evictions, home repairs, emergency benefits, child custody and child support, and replacing ID cards and other important documents. - The Sioux Falls Office serves Native American clients in the following counties: Aurora, Beadle, Bon Homme, Brookings, Brown, Charles Mix, Clay, Codington, Day, Davison, Duel, Douglas, Edmunds, Faulk, Hamlin, Hand, Hanson, Hutchinson, Jerauld, Kingsbury, Lake, Lincoln, Marshall, McCook, McPherson, Miner, Minnehaha, Moody, Sanborn, Spink, Turner, Union and Yankton along with the Flandreau Reservation and Yankton Reservation.

- Residents of the following counties should contact Pine Ridge for assistance: Bennett, Jackson, and Oglala Lakota and the Pine Ridge Reservation.
- If you are a resident of Grant, Roberts or Sisseton Wahpeton Tribal Courts and need legal assistance, please contact the Sisseton office.
- Residents of the following counties should contact Fort Thompson for assistance: Brule, Buffalo, Hyde and Lyman along with the Lower Brule and Crow Creek reservations.
- The Eagle Butte office serves clients who reside in Dewey, Haakon, Hughes, Potter, Sully, Stanley and Ziebach along with the Cheyenne River Reservation.
- The Fort Yates office serves clients who reside in Campbell, Corson, and Walworth counties and the Standing Rock Reservation.
